Draughtsperson

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Work closely with architects, engineers, and project managers.

    • Actively participate in discussions, share ideas, and contribute to the overall design process.

    • Collaborate with architects and engineers to understand design intent, technical requirements, and specifications.

    • Attend meetings to discuss project details and incorporate feedback into drawings.

    • Assist in intersectional and interdepartmental coordination and follow-ups.

    • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to optimise design solutions for cost efficiency.

    • Understand and apply health and safety regulations in all work.

  • Design Development and Technical Execution:

    • Translate conceptual ideas and design sketches into detailed and accurate technical drawings.

    • Ensure creative concepts are converted into practical plans suitable for construction or implementation.

    • Adapt to changes in the original design and integrate modifications into drawings efficiently and accurately.

    • Ensure compliance with project requirements during revisions.

    • Utilize the latest software and drafting tools with proficiency.

    • Stay updated on the latest software features and industry’s best practices to enhance drawing quality and efficiency.

  • Quality Control and Documentation:

    • Articulate ideas clearly and effectively within the design team.

    • Seek clarification when necessary and ensure drawings convey accurate information to all team members.

    • Work on various aspects of projects simultaneously while coordinating with modelers, illustrators, and project managers.

    • Contribute to a smooth workflow and project execution.

    • Maintain organized documentation of drawings, revisions, and design decisions.

    • Ensure documentation is available for project reference and future use.

  • Planning, Deadlines, and Cost Management:

    • Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.

    • Communicate progress and contribute to the team’s collective goal of completing projects on schedule.

    • Prepare quantity take-offs for both tentative and detailed cost estimates for in-house and outsourced projects.

    • Prepare bills of quantities and bills of materials for in-house and outsourced projects.

    • Prepare comparisons and cost evaluations for tender evaluations.

    • Analyze current market rates and prepare rate breakdowns and databases.

    • Analyze outcomes and prepare detailed progress reports.

    • Perform risk and value management exercises.

    • Identify, analyze, and develop responses to commercial risks.

    • Identify and implement cost-saving measures and value engineering opportunities without compromising quality and functionality.

  • General Duties and Advisory:

    • Attend to any other related departmental or office tasks as assigned by the project director, manager, design team manager and senior management team.

    • Provide post-occupancy advice, facilities management services, and life cycle costing advice.

  • Project Management:

    • Apply direct work experience in project management, including all aspects of process development and execution.

    • Work independently and in team-oriented, collaborative environments.

    • Interpret and respond to the communication styles of team members and contractors within relevant project disciplines.

    • Adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

    • Use project management software and technical tools relevant to the role.
