Maldives Ministerial Roundtable at CWEIC May 2024
CWEIC Hosts Roundtable with Maldives Minister for Economic Development and Trade to Modernize its Financial Sector.
Excited to share that the Government of Maldives is now a Strategic Partner of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC). Since Lord Marland’s visit to the Maldives in February, CWEIC has been dedicated to supporting the modernisation of the Maldives' financial sector. Recently, Vincent Keaveny CBE, former Lord Mayor of the City of London, hosted an important roundtable at DLA Piper, bringing together UK financial institutions and H.E. Mohamed Saeed, our Minister for Economic Development and Trade.
Our Government is on a significant journey to reform and modernise our financial sector with robust policy initiatives, including the establishment of the Maldives International Financial Services Authority and the Maldives Development Bank. This roundtable was a fantastic platform for experts from the UK’s financial institutions and the Commonwealth investment community to share their expertise, opportunities, regulatory insights, and best practices.
We discussed the importance of fostering competitiveness in both the construction and implementation of financial policies, highlighting the need for a competitive regulatory edge. There was a strong consensus on the necessity for our Government to remain responsive to the evolving global economic landscape.
A big thank you to everyone involved, especially Vincent Keaveny CBE and all the participants. I am honored to support these initiatives as the newly appointed Chair of the Maldives Hub.
Looking forward to continuing this collaboration and advancing our development initiatives to create a thriving financial ecosystem in the Maldives.
